My Closet is Clean!!!

My apartment is simple, functional and exactly what I need in order to pursue my passions. When you have a small space to sleep, cook, eat, live and store your clothes and accessories in you have to make the most of each square foot. To that end I embarked on cleaning my modest walk in closet last week. It ends up being the 'catch all' when I want my place sparkling clean or when guests are coming for dinner. Over the course of the last year and a half it has come to house lots of bins containing what I have thought is essential to life.

What a good cleansing will do for the soul!! I started by taking most everything out of my closet and then weeding through what I can give away, what I can sell and what I have to keep. I've been patting myself on the back ever since the cleanse. I have this lovely rack that I found in the trash a few years ago that I cleaned thoroughly and then hung on the wall of my closet. This rack houses the scores of vintage, antique and contemporary necklaces and bracelets I own.  When I go through these cleansing periods I go through each piece. Touching it, trying it on, weighing whether I need it or not.

This photo is just a small sampling of what jewelry I am keeping. Each piece has a story. Each piece has a life of it's own. If you see me wearing one of these bracelets, ask me what it's story is. I am always happy to oblige in sharing it's history and the good memory I associate with it.

Vintage 1960's Vicuna Fur Coat

This coat is just about the softest fur coat you'll ever feel. Made from vicuna fur, a cousin of the llama. Read more details about vicnua fur in the listing for this coat in my Etsy shop.

Coming Soon!

I very recently picked up these three beauty's!

Chiffon is one of my favorite fabrics and it usually comes with lots of volume and ruching to create a gorgeous flowing, figure flattering silhouette. And these three are no exception!

These dresses will be coming to my Etsy shop this week.

It's in the Details

I often find that one seemingly small feature on an article of clothing can be all it takes to make it something really special. The photos below are close ups of pieces I will be listing on Etsy this week. The pink tulle strapless dress would be lovely on it's own but the pink satin 'leaves' coming out of the bust give it that 'wow' factor.

The second photo of the 1950's ivory lace wedding dress shows the beautifully scalloped neckline dotted with small pearls. The third photo displays a 1960's brown knit top with white stripes and gold flecks. The buttons are perfectly suitable in a clear lucite with gold specks. And lastly, a 1960's Mike Benet ivory sequin and chiffon halter gown with the most thoughtful empire waist line.

These dresses and top while quite different from each other, share a very common thread - the beauty of detail.

We Love This Girl!

My sister and I are crazy over our niece. She is the only child of our younger brother and sister-in-law. She is at the very fun age where you can see a distinct personality emerging. We get to be the doting aunties who don't need to discipline but can shower her with love and attention. My brother frequently sends us short videos of her that we play over and over and over. And then when we talk on the phone we repeat every little thing she said in the video! We enjoy her immensely and will do just about anything for her. This photo is a great example of the lengths we will go to please her. This is my sis on the 'bike'!

Tapas and Wine

This shot was taken at Sevilla in Long Beach, California. A restaurant that serves the most delicious tapas. I indulged in a glass of Malbec that I enjoyed only second to my favorite Malbec, Kaiken. I dined there a few nights ago with mostly family and a couple friends. It wasn't until we were three quarters done with the meal that it dawned on me the ceiling was mirrored. I became fixated and then was consumed with getting just the right shot. I do believe this was it!

I would recommend the short ribs, by far, and the warm goat cheese with oregano, chili and peppers and the beef empanada were wonderful. I don't think you can go wrong with what you order and for me, wine was definitely the perfect compliment.

Here is to an evening of light conversation, romantic lighting and decor, delicious food and people I love!!

Who Knew? Blue Cheese!!!

Earlier this year a close friend of mine was moving to New York. What better place to go than the Original Phillipe's in Los Angeles to send him off?!!
Several of us got together there on a Wednesday evening to eat, give well wishes, bestow him with gifts and did I mention, eat!
He couldn't have been happier or more surprised. The cash gifts, down coat and long johns would be a reminder that even though he was 3,000 miles away he was truly loved by his friends.

I have treasured photos from the evening and memories that won't fade but I also scored in the food department. As a young girl I remember going to Phillipe's with my parents and siblings. We would always get the beef dipped sandwich. This time was no exception. I ordered the same thing I did when I was 7 years old. However, one of my friends ordered her sandwich with blue cheese. I had always seen that cheese was an option but since I knew how delicious a 'plain' sandwich tasted it never occurred to me to order cheese on it. A few weeks later I found myself roaming the streets of L.A. and ending right back up at Phillipe's. This time I ordered my same beef sandwich but with blue cheese. I couldn't believe my taste buds!! It was delicious!! It taught me a good lesson. I question every menu choice I make now. And as I go through the process of deciding what to order I ask myself, 'Could it be better with something else that I never would have considered adding?'

Who knew? Blue cheese!!!
